Steve is an art director by trade, a writer by passion and a strategist by gut. He founded his agency, then called Red Tettemer, now Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners in 1996 and grew it in the early years by building brands in the entertainment and tech industries, including becoming Comcast’s AOR for eight years and leading their marketing efforts through their acquisition of AT&T to become the largest cable company in the land. During those years he also helped to craft brands including CNN, ESPN, FOX, HBO, Time Warner, NBCUniversal and launch just about every technology that makes the world go round today.
Today, Steve leads the agency and works as one of the two Steves (O’Connell being the other) to affect every piece of strategy and creative that runs through the agency’s two offices in Philly and Los Angeles, including Kellogg’s MorningStar Farms, Planet Fitness, Century 21, Dockers, William Grant & Sons, Under Armour and Ska Brewing. He believes people are smart and the only real martini is made with gin. Some day, he still plans to settle down and start painting again, which is what his Dad says he should have done all along.
